Haute Flash: Eva Mendes Has TV Execs Panties in a Bunch

Fresh out of rehab, Eva Mendes is making headlines, but for all the right reasons in my opinion. Too bad TV executives at several networks don't share the same sentiment! Mendes recently shot a TV ad with renowned photographer Steven Meisel for Calvin Klein's new fragrance, Secret Obsession, and TV networks are frazzled over the content of the ad and have moved to censor much of the commercial.

Women's Wear Daily had this to say concerning the networks' distaste over the ads.

What's got the censors upset? Well, evidently a combination of what Mendes says — and doesn't say — layered with provocative music and lots of skin.

However, Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American fragrances for Coty Prestige, who oversee the Calvin Klein Fragrances license, had this to say about the fracas.

"Every time we do TV [with the Calvin brand] it comes back with some sort of push-back from the networks — but nothing like this. This time," she vowed, "we're going to fight."

Fortunately, Mendes has the backing of Calvin Klein which only speaks to the leaps and bounds the star is making since checking out of rehab earlier this year. Funnily enough, the brouhaha these TV execs are making over Mendes' risqué TV ad pale in comparison to the bare naked display Mendes did for PETA (see below)! These TV networks just need to take heed of previous run-ins with overt displays of sex (i.e., Janet Jackson's half-time peep show at Super Bowl 38) and realize no real harm comes of it.

Secret Obsession is set to hit stores mid-September and the print and TV ads (if certain panties are unraveled) will also follow suit around the same time period.
